An independent visitor guide to the village of Bodega, Sonoma County, California: what it covers, where its facts come from, and who it is not affiliated with.
This site is an independent visitor guide to Bodega, a village of about 211 residents in western Sonoma County. It is not affiliated with any Bodega business, with St. Teresa of Avila parish, with Sonoma County government, or with the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria. It does not speak for any of them, and where their own words matter (a parish schedule, a tribal history, a business's hours) the source is named and linked rather than paraphrased as fact.
Bodega, the inland village, is easy to confuse with Bodega Bay, the coastal town five miles west. A good portion of this site exists to keep the two straight, since Alfred Hitchcock filmed the inland schoolhouse and church scenes for “The Birds” while setting the story in a fictionalized Bodega Bay.
Dates, names, and figures on this site are drawn from published local history, the Sonoma County tourism office, the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, Wikipedia, and the production records of “The Birds” itself. Where a claim in an earlier draft of this guide could not be independently verified, it has been removed rather than left in place.

Photographs on this site are of the actual buildings and places they describe: the Potter Schoolhouse, St. Teresa of Avila Church, and the rest of the village core. Where a photograph is not available, the page says so rather than substituting a stand-in image.
